No. 1 Gators at NCAA Athens Regional This Weekend

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The goal is simple for top-seeded Florida gymnastics for this weekend – earn a NCAA Championships' berth. Florida seeks that spot this weekend in Athens, Ga., in NCAA Regional competition.
The Gators begin regional competition Friday, April 2 at 7 p.m. ET in the Stegeman Coliseum.
Regional Competition Format
2021 is the second year for the current NCAA regional/national championships format
- Nine teams compete at four regional sites:
- Regional First Round – Lowest two seeded teams at each site compete to advance to Day 2 eight-team regional competition
- Regional Second Round – Eight teams compete, split into two four-team sessions. Top two teams in each session advance to Day 3 regional final
- Regional Final – Four teams compete, with top two teams advancing to NCAA Championships, set for April 16-17 in Ft. Worth, Texas.

Three 2021 conference champions are among the NCAA Athens Regional field. Florida won the Southeastern Conference regular-season title with a 7-0 record. Denver upset defending NCAA champion Oklahoma to claim the Big 12 Championship meet title. Minnesota used a program record 197.75 to take the Big Ten Championship meet title on March 20 in Minneapolis, Minn.
Florida is seeking its 37th NCAA Championships' berth in the event's 39-year history.

Gator 2021 Notables:
- Won its third consecutive Southeastern Conference regular season title (7-0). Second straight undefeated SEC record for UF since every league team started meeting in regular-season action in 1992.
- Florida leads all programs with three 2021 scores among nation's top 11 – No. 1 (198.275), No. 3 (198.15), No. 11 (197.85). Nation's only with eight team totals among top 60 of 2021.
- Finished regular-season with top-five national qualifying score for every event: No. T-1 overall (197.944), No. 1 beam (49.656), No. 1 floor (49.544), No. 4 vault (49.488) and No. 5 bars (49.475).
- A nation-high seven Gators claimed 13 Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) All-America regular-season honors. Trinity Thomas is nation's only to earn the maximum of five All-America honors. Two honors were earned by seniors Alyssa Baumann (beam, floor) and Megan Skaggs (all-around, bars). Others picking up 2021 All-America honors were: Leah Clapper (beam), Ellie Lazzari (beam), Nya Reed (floor), Savannah Schoenherr (vault).
- Florida's Jenny Rowland is SEC Coach of the Year for second consecutive season and third time in her six seasons with the Gators.
- Clapper is the 2021 SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Third Gator to claim the honor and first since Alex McMurtry picked up her second consecutive honor in 2018.
- Two Gators were among the tie for the SEC Championship meet beam title – Baumann and Lazzari. Baumann is first in the 40-year history of the meet to win three beam titles.
- Joining Baumann and Lazzari on the 2021 All-SEC team were Clapper and Skaggs.
- A pair of Gators earned 10.0s in 2021 – Leah Clapper (beam 1x) and Trinity Thomas (bars 1x, floor 2x)
