GAINESVILLE, Fla. – It was announced Monday afternoon by the Southeastern Conference that third baseman Charla Echols was awarded SEC Player of the Week for her performances against Texas A&M this past weekend.
Echols turned in three multi-hit games as she went 2-for-4, 2-for-3 and 2-for-4 in the three-game series sweep against the Aggies. She batted .545 on the week going 6-for-11 at the plate with four runs scored, five RBI and two big home runs.
The Newnan, Ga. native started the weekend with a bang as she lifted the Gators to a series opening, 5-3, win via her walk-off three-run home run in the bottom of the 7th inning.
Echols set the tone for the Gators 4-0 win that captured the program's eighth SEC series of the season. The left-handed hitter gave UF the initial 2-0 lead with her 13th homer of the year over the right-field wall in the 2nd inning.
She ended the weekend with two runs scored in the Gators largest comeback victory of the season that won the Gators their league leading ninth overall SEC Regular Season Championship.
