GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Florida infielder Josh Rivera was named a 2021 Cape League All-Star as a utility player on Tuesday. Rivera represents the Chatham Anglers on the East Division roster.
Although there will not be an actual All-Star Game this year, the Cape League felt it necessary to recognize its premier players by selecting 48 All-Stars to fill two 24-man rosters from the East and West Divisions.
As Chatham's lone All-Star, Rivera has been on a tear over his last 14 games played. During that span, the Gators infielder is batting .333 (13-for-39) with one home run, two doubles, seven runs, two RBI, six walks and one stolen base. Rivera has struck out just seven times over the course of that stretch.
On the summer, Rivera owns a .240/.321/.307 batting line while facing arguably the fiercest competition of any summer league in the nation.
Rivera and Chatham next hit the field on Wednesday, July 21 with a 7 p.m. home tilt against the Cotuit Kettleers. There are 13 total games remaining in the Cape League season, which runs though August 4.
