Elisha Dees named SEC Men’s Diver of the Week for first time; Miller, Liendo claim second honors this season
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The freshman trio of Elisha Dees, Hayden Miller, and Joshua Liendo all earned SEC weekly honors, the conference announced. Dees was named SEC Men's Diver of the Week, Miller was named SEC Women's Freshman of the Week for the second time this season, while Liendo secured Co-SEC Men's Freshman of the Week for his second honors of the year after winning SEC Player of the Week last month.
Dees posted his first win in his young collegiate career, winning the 1-meter with a 298.65. The Jacksonville native finished second in the 3-meter, and has finished in the top-two in all four of his events this year. It was the second time this season that Florida has earned Men's Diver of the Week honors (Anton Svirskyi – Sept. 27).
Miller keeps building on her impressive stretch, shaving nearly 10 seconds off of her 1000 free time, clocking in at 9:43.68 to finish top of the leaderboard against the top team in the country. The Houston, Texas native also finished second in the 400 free relay, tallying a third leg split of 52.59.
Liendo continued his strong start to his collegiate career, clocking a 19.27 in the 50 free, the fastest time in the nation so far this year. The Canadian Olympian also recorded first place finishes in the 200 medley relay and the 400 free relay, while touching the wall in 47.05 to finish second in the 100 fly.
The Gators continue the season Friday morning at Georgia to open up SEC competition.
