Long Jumpers, Relays Steal Show on Final Day of Texas Relays
Saturday, March 26, 2022 | Track and Field
AUSTIN, Texas – The Florida men's track and field team put out three relay squads on Saturday, using seven athletes to run impressive, season-opening times in the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400 relays to close out the 94th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.
The Gators opened up the day in the 4x200, clocking a 1:21.02 behind the team of Dedrick Vanover, Jacory Patterson, Ryan Willie and Jacob Miley. That mark was the second-fastest time in school history.
Just 90 minutes later, Florida came back and lowered its NCAA and world-leading 4x100 mark with the team of Vanover, Tyler Davis, PJ Austin and Joseph Fahnbulleh.
It was a neck and neck race heading into the final handoff before Fahnbulleh turned on the burners in the final 100 meters to outlast Texas by .40 seconds.
That mark set by Florida's 4x100 team on Saturday afternoon was the fourth-best time in school history, moving up from the 10th-place time it ran on Friday.
Just two weeks after winning the NCAA Indoor Championship in the Long Jump, Jasmine Moore opened her outdoor account with a wind-legal jump of 6.75m/22-1.75 to move into second place all-time in school history.
Claire Bryant followed right behind with a personal-best mark of 6.73m/22-1 to take full possession of third place in school history.
Caleb Foster (8.00m/26-3) (3.6m/s) and Malcolm Clemons (7.99m/26-2.75) (3.7m/s) put themselves No. 3 and No. 4 in the NCAA this season with impressive efforts to open their outdoor season in the Long Jump.
Thea Jensen tossed 16.00m/52-6 in her outdoor shot put opener.
To close out the day, Florida's 4x400 team of Patterson, Willie, Miley and Fahnbulleh came back and ran the second-best mark in the NCAA and the world with a time of 3:02.20
The Gators return to action next weekend with the first home meet of the season. Florida will host the 2022 Pepsi Florida Relays from March 31st-April 2nd, featuring some of the best high school and college athletes the nation has to offer.
