Wednesday, August 10, 2022 | Men's Tennis
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida men's tennis head coach Bryan Shelton announced the Gators' 2022-23 schedule on Wednesday afternoon, a schedule that will bring 10 dual matches and a fall tournament to the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex throughout the season.
During the spring section of the season, the Gators will face-off with 13 teams who qualified for the 2022 NCAA Tournament, with 16 opponents finishing in the top 75 of the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings.
Matchups with Texas Christian, who was the number one overall seed during the 2022 NCAA Tournament, and Texas will headline a strong non-conference for the Gators while national-runner up Kentucky and nationally-ranked Georgia and Tennessee highlight a strong Southeastern Conference home schedule.
The 2022-23 season will officially be underway from Sept. 23-25 when the Gators head north for the Vanderbilt Invitational. October will get started with the ITA All-American Championships from Oct. 1-Oct. 9 in Tulsa, Okla., before ITA Regional takes the Orange & Blue to Tallahassee from Oct. 20-24.
Focus will remain on ITA competition as the ITA Fall Nationals will open November from Nov. 2-6 in San Diego, Calif., while a contingent of Gators will stay back to host the Gator Invitational at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex from Nov. 4-6.
Dual match competition is slated to begin on Sunday, Jan. 15 when Florida welcomes Texas to Gainesville in a premiere non-conference matchup. Six days later, UF will travel to Orlando for a Jan. 21 matchup at UCF.
The Gators will play host during the ITA Kickoff Weekend, welcoming Mississippi State, South Florida and Southern Methodist to the Ring. A match with South Florida on Jan. 28 will determine who the Orange & Blue meet on Jan. 28 in either the championship or consolation round.
February will begin with a familiar foe in Florida State on Feb. 2 in Lake Nona, Fla. Florida will remain in Lake Nona on Feb. 4 and Feb. 5 for back-to-back matchups with PAC-12 opponents to be announced at a later date. The ITA National Indoor Championships will conclude the month from Feb. 17-20 in Chicago, Ill.
Southeastern Conference competition opens-up on the road Mississippi State (March 2) and LSU (March 4) before a return home for a March 12 matchup with Alabama. On March 14, TCU will make a return trip to Gainesville for another premiere non-conference matchup prior to UF hitting the road once again for matches at Ole Miss (March 16) and Vanderbilt (March 18). March will conclude with consecutive home contests against Arkansas (March 24) and Auburn (March 26).
An April Fools Day face-off with Texas A&M in College Station awaits the Gators on April 1 before three-straight matches at home against Tennessee (April 7), Georgia (April 9) and 2022 national runner-up Kentucky (April 14). The regular season finale will take place at South Carolina on Sunday, April 16 while Auburn will host the SEC Tournament from April 19-23. The NCAA Tournament will be contested in May from the 17-27 with the Individual Championships to follow.
