PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. - Former University of Florida football players Jon Bostic and Johnny Rutledge were elected to the 2023 Plam Beach County Sports Hall of Fame, the county sports commission announced Friday.
Bostic was a four-year letter-winner of the Gators from 2009-12. He appeared in 51 games and made 32 starts totaling 237 career tackles. The Palm Beach Central graduate was an All-SEC Second Team selection his senior year and drafted by the Chicago Bears in the second round (50th overall) in the 2012 NFL Draft. Bostic is currently a member of the Washington Commanders.
A member of Florida football's first national championship team, Rutledge played for the Gators from 1995 to 1999. He was selected to the All-SEC First Team in 1998, the second team a season prior and a member of the conference freshman team as well. The team leader in tackles in 1997, Rutledge was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals with the 51st pick (2nd round) in the 1999 NFL Draft.
In 1977, after years of covering local sports, veteran sportswriter Chuck Otterson decided the time was right to formally recognize the accomplishments of area athletes. The Palm Beach County Sports Commission has been involved with this event since 2004, developing it into the successful program it is today.
Nominations are made by the general public and members of the Hall of Fame Committee. Candidates must have been born, attended school, or achieved their major sports accomplishment in Palm Beach County in order to be considered for the Hall of Fame. Nominations are reviewed and committee members and past inductees select the individuals welcomed annually into the Hall of Fame.
