Gators Find Success in 1500m on Final Day of U.S Open

Florida earned three medals in the last day of competition.  
 
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -  The Gators wrapped up U.S Open Championships competition on Saturday, Dec. 2. Former, current and future member of the men's and women's swimming and diving program recording three medals and seven finals appearances in the final day of competition.  
 
Three Gators finished top-five in the 1500m free. American Record Holder Bobby Finke added another medal to his U.S Open appearance, finishing first in the event. Finke pulled past fellow U.S Team Member Charlie Clark in the last stretch to finish 15:03.97 and 15:05.57. Florida Commit Luke Whitlock set a new personal best by a whole 14 seconds to earn bronze at 15:08.09. Current Florida sophomore Eric Brown paced fifth after swimming 15:18.02.  
 
Kieran Smith swam personal best 1:57.51, which was good for silver in the 200m Backstroke.
 
Current and Former Gators making final appearances were: Caeleb Dressel, Joshua Liendo, Macguire McDuff, Bella Sims, Molly Mayne.
 
Future Gators that appeared on Saturday are: Luke Whitlock, Addison Reese and Sofia Plaza.

2023 U.S. Open Championships 

Saturday, December 2
 
Finals
200m Backstroke
Women's C-Final - Freshman Bella Sims lead the entire way, shaving over three seconds off her prelim time to secure a first-place finish with 2:11.39.
 
100m Freestyle
Men's B-Final – Joshua Liendo clocked a 48.60 to win the B-Final, finishing ahead of Caeleb Dressel's second-place 48.85.  
 
Men's C-Final –Macguire McDuff paced in second the whole way for a 48.91 time improve from his prelim time.
 
200m Breaststroke
Women's C-Final – Molly Mayne steadily swam to a seventh-place finish after she posted a 7:34.33
 
200m Backstroke
Women's C-Final – Future Gator Addison Reese recorded a second-place finish after shaving nearly two seconds off her morning time.
