Meet the Gators: Blake Brookins & Robert Satin
Friday, December 8, 2023 | Baseball
With the calendar flipping to December, the 2023 Meet the Gators series continues with two true freshmen in outfielder Blake Brookins and left-handed pitcher Robert Satin. Brookins, who graduated from Miami Palmetto High School in Palmetto Bay, Fla. will wear No. 24 for the Gators. Hailing from Plant High School in Tampa, Fla., Satin is in line to rep No. 55.
As members of the 2023 recruiting class, Brookins ranked as the No. 210 overall recruit by Perfect Game along with being the No. 28 overall player and No. 3 outfielder in the state of Florida. Satin was also a top-500 player according to PG, coming in as the No. 15 left-handed pitcher in Florida.
Leading off, Brookins came to Gainesville as a two-time letterwinner under head coach Danny Smith and multi-sport athlete in baseball and football at Miami Palmetto. Brookins was an accomplished player on the gridiron, receiving five FBS offers to play tight end including a Power Five offer from Indiana.
As a senior, Brookins was honored as the 2023 7A-16 Player of the Year after hitting a stellar .443/.564/.576 with a 1.209 OPS. Across 79 plate appearances spanning 21 games, the speedy outfielder collected one homer, two triples, five doubles, 16 RBI and 13 runs. All told, Brookins concluded his prep career as a .406/.500/.609 hitter. Playing in 44 games, he totaled 54 hits, two home runs, four triples, 13 doubles, 34 RBI and 28 runs. On the base paths, Brookins swiped seven bags across eight attempts.
During his prep career, Brookins competed for Top Tier Roos American and was named to four different Perfect Game All-Tournament teams. He was a 2023 PG Preseason First Team All-Region honoree and a 2022 PG National Showcase participant.
As the son of John and Frankie Brookins, Blake has one brother, Brandon. He intends to major in business at the University of Florida.
Moving from the outfield to the mound, Satin arrived on campus as an accomplished hurler highlighted by a pair of letters under head coach Dennis Braun at Plant. Satin has already displayed his talents in front of Gators fans, posting shutout innings in exhibitions against Georgia and Stetson this fall. He retired all three Bulldogs he faced in order back on Oct. 27.
Satin was untouchable across his final two prep years at Plant, garnering 2022 and 2023 All-813Preps Pitcher of the Year honors while going 19-1 with a 1.72 ERA and 175 strikeouts against just 26 walks in 134 1/3 innings. That was good for a 6.7 strikeout-to-walk ratio and 11.7 strikeouts per nine.
Looking at Satin's senior campaign, he delivered a perfect 11-0 record to go along with a 1.36 ERA and .154 batting average against. The southpaw punched 104 tickets while surrendering 10 walks. At the dish, Satin capped off his high school tenure with a .371/.412/.511 career slash line backed by three homers, 15 doubles, 48 RBI and 13 runs in 55 high school contests.
Similar to Brookins, Satin was named PG Preseason Second Team All-Region in 2023. He also earned mention on multiple PG All-Tournament teams including Most Valuable Pitcher status at the 2022 17U WWBA Florida Championship as a member of the Florida Panthers.

Funky delivery and throws strikes. He's an early candidate to contribute out of the Florida pen this year. pic.twitter.com/CClCeAwOVL
