Carter's Corner: Gators Impacted by Coaching Carousel, Thomas' 10s, More Tidbits
Friday, February 24, 2023 | Football, Scott Carter
Meanwhile, across campus the Gators baseball team looks to rebound from Wednesday night's bullpen meltdown against USF. Florida hosts Cincinnati in a three-game series Friday-Sunday at Condron Ballpark. The UF lacrosse team, ranked seventh, hosts No. 7 Maryland on Saturday in a top-10 matchup at Dizney Stadium. The men's basketball team plays at Vanderbilt on Saturday and the women's team, which defeated Alabama on Thursday night, closes the regular season on Sunday at Missouri.
That's not all.
The third-ranked UF women's softball team is in Southern California playing in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, and the UF men's and women's track teams are in Arkansas vying for titles at the Southeastern Conference Indoor Championships.
And of course, the coaching carousel in college football and the NFL has started spinning at a faster pace, with the Gators losing three assistant coaches this week to "The King" and revamping veteran secondary coach Corey Raymond's role.
While the moves are awaiting official release from the organizations involved, all are happening as of this post. Here are some of the latest links on notable items of interest to Gators fans:
-- The days of seeing co-defensive coordinator Patrick Toney and tight ends coach William Peagler talking ball on their afternoon walks around campus are over. Toney and Peagler are joining the Arizona Cardinals to assist new Arizona defensive coordinator Nick Rallis, who has been busy rounding out his staff writes Jose M. Romero of the Arizona Republic. Meanwhile, ESPN.com reported the Gators will officially hire Austin Armstrong, who recently left Southern Miss to become Alabama's linebackers coach, to the defensive staff.
