These nine athletes, plus the 31 on the SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll, bring the total to 40 – a program record
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Nine Florida lacrosse players were named to the SEC First Year Academic Honor Roll, as the Southeastern Conference announced Friday. Those nine bring the total to 40 student-athletes with SEC academic honors in the 2023 season, the most in program history.
Those nine newcomers selected to the Honor Roll consist of Theresa Bragg, Kaitlyn Davies, Lara Kology, Gianna Monaco, Ava Tighe, Madison Waters, Carly Wilson, Sydney Wilson and Jenny Woodings.
Today's announcement sets Florida's record at 402 for total of student-athletes named to a 2022-23 SEC Academic Honor Roll to 402. The previous record of 378 was set in 2020-21 and equaled last season. Florida placed 322 on SEC Academic Honor Rolls (113 on fall list; 72 winter, 137 on spring) and 80 on the First-Year Honor Roll.
Yesterday, a program-record 31 Gators earned a spot on the SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll.
On the field, the Gators finished the 2023 season with a 17-4 record overall and a 5-1 run in conference play. For the 10th time in program history, including the ninth-straight year, the Gators were able to hoist the conference tournament championship trophy, having defeated then-No. 6 James Madison in the AAC Championship game.
To be recognized for the SEC Academic Honor Roll, each student-athlete must meet the following criteria: 1) have a GPA of 3.00 for either the preceding academic year or have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship, a letterwinner or have participated on a varsity team for two years if non-scholarship; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport's entire NCAA Championship segment.
