Clayton Adds Coaches All-SEC to Preseason Honors
Thursday, October 31, 2024 | Men's Basketball
Florida senior guard Walter Clayton Jr. adds coaches first-team All-SEC to his growing list of preseason accolades, which also includes the Naismith Trophy Men's College Player of the Year Watch List and the media's first-team All-SEC team.
Clayton has piled up 1,404 points in his career and is part of a loaded backcourt trio of thousand-point scorers alongside Alijah Martin (1,476) and Will Richard (1,143). The 21st-ranked Gators enter a season with a trio of players above 1,000 points for just the third time this century, previously doing so in 2011-12 (Kenny Boynton, Mike Rosario, Erving Walker) and again in 2021-22 (Tyree Appleby, Phlandrous Fleming Jr., Brandon McKissic).
Clayton's junior season highlights included a 23-point performance in an overtime win at No. 10 Kentucky, as his 3-pointer with 3.0 seconds left in regulation forced overtime. Another 3-point field goal with 1:42 left in overtime put UF ahead for good, helping seal Florida's first top-10 road win since 2003.
UF's season tips off on Nov. 4 in Jacksonville, where the Gators will face South Florida at 8:30 p.m. on SEC Network.
