Meet the Gators: Billy Barlow
Tuesday, November 12, 2024 | Baseball
Next on the bump for Florida in the 2024 Meet the Gators series is transfer pitcher Billy Barlow from North Myrtle Beach, S.C. As D1Baseball's No. 42 impact transfer hurler, the right-hander will don No. 23 for the Orange & Blue.
Having already debuted in Gator Country this fall, Barlow toed the rubber in each of Florida's exhibitions against Jacksonville and USF. He did not allow a run in either outing, finishing with one hit allowed, two walks and four strikeouts across two frames.
Barlow should be a familiar face for Gators fans, as he faced off against Florida in Super Regionals last June as a member of the Clemson Tigers. During his three seasons as a Tiger, Barlow accumulated an 8-6 record with an ERA of 4.69 over 109 1/3 innings pitched. The righty started in 26 of his 35 career appearances and struck out 102 batters against 42 walks for a 2.43 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
In his final season At Clemson, Barlow produced his best body of work while serving as a team captain. Leading the team in wins with a 6-1 record, he fired 48 1/3 frames of 4.28 ERA ball backed by a .259 batting average against and 42 strikeouts.
Prior to his commitment to Clemson, Barlow shined as a two-sport athlete at North Myrtle Beach High School. Starring as an all-state performer on the diamond and gridiron, Barlow was a four-year letterwinner in baseball under Head Coach Brian Alderson and collected another three letters in football.
Boasting a 19-1 career record at North Myrtle Beach, Barlow dominated to the tune of a 1.54 ERA across 109 1/3 varsity innings. He struck out 165 batters against 44 walks for a 13.6 K/9 and .159 BAA.
As a senior, Barlow was named County Player of the Year after going 9-1 with a 1.04 ERA and .145 BAA in 60 2/3 innings across 12 appearances. He fanned 114 batters while walking just 16 and allowed 33 hits – none of which left the yard.
Entering college, Perfect Game ranked Barlow as the No. 62 right-handed pitcher and No. 186 player nationally in addition to being the No. 3 righty and No. 5 recruit in South Carolina. He earned PG Preseason All-Atlantic Region First Team honors in advance of his final campaign and was tabbed to four different all-tournament teams at PG events from 2016-2020.
