Meet the Gators: Brendan Lawson
Tuesday, November 26, 2024 | Baseball
Emerging from the on-deck circle for the 2024 Meet the Gators lineup is infielder Brendan Lawson out of Toronto, Ontario. The six-foot-three freshman will don number No. 11 in Orange & Blue.
Holding status as the top-ranked Canadian prospect in the class, Lawson was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 19th round of the 2024 MLB Draft this past summer. Although he elected to bring his talents to Gator Country, he impressed across 10 games with the Trenton Thunder of the MLB Draft League. Over 45 plate appearances, Lawson posted a .344/.533/.375 slash line with 11 hits, six runs and more walks (12) than strikeouts (10).
Prior to his arrival in Gainesville, Lawson played under Head Coach Corey Warner at P27 Baseball Academy in Lexington, S.C. He wrapped up his career as a top-200 MLB Draft prospect while coming in as the No. 57 player in the class on top of ranking No. 1 overall in Canada. Although Lawson missed much of his senior season, he was able to return in the late spring and competed in the Perfect Game Academies Showcase in May.
Before his time at P27, Lawson played at Lawrence Park Collegiate Institute and with the Ontario Blue Jays of the Canadian Premier Baseball League, primarily logging innings at shortstop. He earned PG Preseason First Team All-Region honors for the Canada/Puerto Rico area in consecutive years from 2023-24 and attended the PG National Showcase in 2023.
During his high school days, Lawson even had the opportunity to suit up for Team Canada. As a member of the Junior National Team with the Blue Jays, he collected the Team MVP award for the 2022 campaign.
