Meet the Gators: Brock Clayton
Friday, December 27, 2024 | Baseball
Making his way from the on-deck circle into the spotlight for the 2024 Meet the Gators series is freshman catcher/outfielder Brock Clayton from Gulf Breeze, Fla. The Pensacola Catholic High School product will be found repping No. 35 at Condron Family Ballpark this spring.
Debuting in front of Gator Nation this past fall, Clayton saw action in Florida's 5-0 victory over South Florida on Nov. 10. Athletic enough to stick behind the dish and roam the outfield adequately, the former two-sport athlete starred on the gridiron at Pensacola Catholic in addition to his work on the diamond.
Competing under Head Baseball Coach Richard LaBounty, Clayton slashed a robust .466/.584/.727 across 29 games as a senior to take home the Pensacola News Journal's All-Area Hitter of the Year award. Over 88 at bats, he connected for four homers, two triples, seven doubles, 28 RBI and 13 runs while swiping four bags. The toolsy backstop also showed a good approach at the plate, drawing 21 walks to 22 strikeouts.
Defensively, Clayton fielded at a .991 clip across 216 chances as the team's starting catcher. His 25.0% caught-stealing rate ranked ninth in the state among qualified backstops. All things considered, he finished 2024 with FACA State All-Star and Prep Baseball Florida First Team All-State honors.
Rewinding back to his freshman and sophomore seasons, Clayton began his prep career at Gulf Breeze High School. Appearing in 23 varsity contests from 2021-22, he hit .389/.470/.569 with two homers, seven doubles, 14 RBI, 20 runs and six stolen bases in 72 at bats.
As a prepster, Clayton also suited up for the East Coast Sox Scout Team and collected seven sets of all-tournament honors at Perfect Game events from 2019-22. Perfect Game also tabbed him Preseason Second Team All-Region for three-straight years from 2022-24, in addition to ranking him as the No. 119 recruit and No. 12 catcher in Florida.
