OKLAHOMA CITY – Jocelyn Erickson and Kendra Falby of the Florida softball team were announced as Rawlings Gold Glove Award recipients Wednesday afternoon at Devon Park, the site of the 2024 Women's College World Series. UF's selections are tied for the most Rawlings Gold Glove Award recipients among any program in the nation this year.
The duo became the second and third players in program history to receive the award as they join 2022 recipient Hannah Adams, who won the award as a second baseman during the awards inaugural season for softball. Erickson is the first catcher in program history to receive the honor and Falby is the first outfielder.
Erickson, a sophomore, earned the honor after a stellar season behind the plate for the Gators. The Phoenix, Ariz., native controlled opposing team's run games as only 19 would be base stealers were caught 13 times by the left-hander. Her .316 stolen base percentage against currently stands as the lowest mark in program history during a single-season.
Falby has been one of the sport's elite defenders since arriving to the scene her freshman year in 2022. The Odessa, Fla., native has utilized her speed to make nearly impossible catches look routine, but this season Falby has made runners pay for attempting to advance bases after the catch. The right-handed speedster has four outfield assists on the year, including a pair of game-ending double plays in the 1-0 win versus UCLA and the 15-13 win at Florida State.
Erickson, Falby and the rest of the Florida softball team are set to take on No.5-seed Oklahoma State this Thursday, May 30, at 8:30 p.m. CT/9:30 p.m. ET in the opening round of the 2024 Women's College World Series.
