Wednesday, July 10, 2024 | General
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Florida saw 121 student-athletes named to the 2023-24 Southeastern Conference First-Year Academic Honor Roll by league commissioner Greg Sankey. Grades from the 2023-24 academic year determine the 2024 SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll.
Today's announcement sets Florida's record at 433 for total of student-athletes named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll in a single season. The record has been reset twice since 2020-21 (378 in 2020-21 and 2021-22 and 410 for 2022-23 academic year). Florida placed 312 on SEC Academic Honor Rolls (137 on fall list; 64 winter, 111 on spring) and 121 on the First-Year Honor Roll.
Jocelyn Erickson was named the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division I Player of the Year and also earned the SEC Player of the Year award.
2024 SEC Swimmer and Freshman of the Year Bella Sims earned a spot on the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll. Two other SEC Freshman of the Year honorees – Megan Hinnenkamp (soccer) and Keagan Rothrock (softball) join Sims on the list.
They are among 15 Gators who earned both SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll status and 2024 All-America accolades.
Sims won two NCAA individual titles – 200 and 500 freestyle – and swam on the UF's champion 800 free relay.
Four earned 4.0 grade point averages in their first year at UF – Madi Gravlee (volleyball), Kennedy Muff (volleyball), Korbe Otis (softball) and Emily Yaple (soccer). Otis was named to the 2024 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America First Team.
To be recognized to the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll, each student-athlete must 1) have a GPA of 3.00 for either the preceding academic year or have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship, a letterwinner; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport's entire NCAA Championship segment.
