
Gators Duo Advances to Quarterfinals of ITA Southeast Regional

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Gators faced tough competition from across the states of Florida and Georgia. Entering the tournament with five guys in the Main Draw for singles and two doubles pairs.
For the doubles, the senior/freshman duo of Tanapatt Nirundorn and Andreas Timini are competing in the quarterfinals. The pair had a first round bye for the round of 64 and then faced Bullion Sharp and Jan Kusy of FAU, where they won 8-3. In the round of 16, Nirundorn and Timini defeated Azariah Rusher and Mohammad Alkotop (FSU) 8-5.
The pairing of Jeremy Jin and Kevin Edengren fell in the round of 32 to Jonathan Baron and Tanner Povey of FGCU.
In singles, Jin, Edengren and Timini all won their round of 64 matches against players from Mercer, FAU and UNF. In the round of 32, Timini and Edengren fell to their opponents from FSU, but Jin pulled out the win against Alexandre Verlaguet from Stetson to advance to the round of 16. In the round of 16, Jin faced Erik Schiessl of FSU who is ranked by the ITA at No. 120 in the nation for singles. Jin fell in three sets to Schiessl (7-5, 2-6, 2-6).
Henry Jefferson and Nirundorn both fell against competition from the University of Georgia. Jefferson faced Gabriele Vulpitta in a two-set thriller going 6-7 (5-7) and 6-7 (6-8). While Nirundorn played top recruit Noah Johnston on the court going 1-6 and 4-6. However, both Jefferson and Nirundorn came back to compete in the consolation rounds and came out with a win. Jefferson defeated Mehdi Sadaoui of Miam (6-1, 6-0) while Nirundorn also won in two sets against Timeo Gaillard of USF (6-0, 6-1).
Timini and Nirundorn are back on the courts Saturday, Oct. 11 for the doubles' quarterfinals.
