Hawkins Center at Farrior Hall Updates
The Otis Hawkins Center for Academic and Personal Excellence housed within the expanding Farrior Hall will be completed in two phases. The new construction and expansion is scheduled to be completed by May 2016. The current Farrior Hall will then be completely renovated and the full project completion date is December 2016.
The three-floor Hawkins Center will feature everything an athlete will need to help ease their daily hectic schedule. It will be a place where Gators can go for practically anything away from their training and competition duties.
First Floor Highlights
- A unique student-athlete entrance will have displays of current and past Gator academic achievements and excellence in the classroom and community
- A large multipurpose room will host classes, SAAC meetings, new student orientation and much more!
- Nutrition Staff Offices that feature a full kitchen for cooking demonstrations, as well as a Fuel Station to meet student-athletes needs
- Counseling and Wellness Offices helping students succeed academically and interpersonally
- A lounge area where all student-athletes can relax and recharge between classes, practice, tutoring or any other activity!
- Dedicated research space will constitute a unique collaboration between University departments and private partners with a shared interest in improving the health, safety and welfare of our student-athletes and community.
Second Floor Highlights
- Hawkins Center staff offices
- Quiet study areas next to all advisors’ offices where student-athletes can wait before spending personal time with their advisor.
Third Floor Highlights
- The expansion of Farrior Hall allowed the number of tutor/study rooms to increase from 24 to at least 75 with computers in every room
- There will be group study rooms, individual tutor rooms and a magnificent digital lab
- There will be a variety of room sizes and technology based on the specific needs and the purpose of the room, for example:
- The Mathematics lab will have tables with a writable surface
- The Anatomy lab will have an interactive touchscreen display
- The Digital lab will have video cameras for public speaking practice and aiding projects for telecommunication majors
- Each of the three learning labs can accommodate 10 students with computers for all
- Two computer labs: one PC and one Apple
- A large quiet area with comfortable and inviting seating
- Individual rooms that students can use to complete online assessments
