Academic Excellence

  • UF is one of 18 public, land-grant institutions in the 62-member Association of American Universities (AAU).
  • Those applying to be a part of the 2017 fall freshman class boasted strong academics: average GPA is 4.4, while its average SAT score is 1349 and its average ACT score is 30. A record 34,000 prospective students applied for admission during the summer and fall semester of 2017.
  • Florida's freshman retention rate of 96 percent is among the highest in the country.
  • Sixty-five percent of UF freshmen graduate in four years and 86.8 percent graduate in six years.
  • UF has the fifth-largest student enrollment of all U.S. universities in 2016-17 at 52,367 (including nearly 10,000 graduate students) from all 50 states and 100 foreign countries.
  • UF, which offers more than 100 undergraduate majors, has 16 colleges and more than 200 research, service and education centers, bureaus and institutes.
  • More than 3,400 freshmen and sophomores are in the honors program, which offers 90-100 courses per semester. Honors classes are limited to 25 or fewer students.
  • UF coordinates nearly 200 graduate programs and offers professional degree programs in dentistry, law, medicine, pharmacy, architecture, engineering and veterinary medicine.
  • UF faculty attracted more than $791 million in sponsored research in 2016-17.
  • All-time, Florida's 143 Academic All-Americans ranks sixth among Division I programs.
  • Since 1969, NCAA post-graduate scholarships awarded to 55 Gator student-athletes

Athletic Excellence

  • Three NCAA teams titles in the final 36 days of the 2016-17 season pushed Florida to third in the 2016-17 Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup. It was Florida’s ninth consecutive top-five finish in the all-sports rankings.
  • Florida is the only program to finish among the top 10 in each of the last 34 national all-sports standings.
  • NCAA team titles by baseball, women’s tennis and men’s outdoor track & field gives Florida 18 national titles in the last nine seasons. Florida is one of four Division I programs to win at least one national title each of the last nine seasons.
  • Six conference titles earned by Florida teams in 2016-17. Florida took five Southeastern Conference titles – baseball, women’s golf, softball, men’s swimming & diving and volleyball. The Gators also took their third BIG EAST lacrosse title.
  • In 2016-17, 71 UF student-athletes earned 163 All-America honors.
  • UF is the only SEC school to place 100 or more student-athletes on the Academic Honor Roll each of the last 20 years. The 2016-17 academic year saw 254 Gators earn a spot on Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Rolls – 186 on the SEC Academic Honor Rolls and 68 on the SEC First-Year Honor Roll.
  • Gators all-time have landed 144 times on College Sports Information Directors Association of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America teams – which stands No. 6 among Division I programs. Florida’s seven honorees in 2016-17 is two away from the program’s all-time high of nine Academic All-Americans in 1995-96.

  • Five of the nation's top 50 television markets are located in Florida.
  • Over 367,000 UF alumni live in 50 states and 130 countries.

Social
