Learning Services Program
The Hawkins Center Learning Services team operates a comprehensive program that provides services for student-athletes with disabilities and student-athletes with transition support needs. The purpose of the Learning Services Program is to help student-athletes who are struggling academically find success and develop independence.
The Strategy Program
The Strategy Program resources include Learning Specialist/ Assistant Learning Specialist and over 40 Strategy Tutors that provide individualized one-on-one and group tutoring based on student learning profiles.
The College Prep Program
The College Prep Program provides support through tutoring services to students that are enrolled in at least one of the three remedial courses taught through Santa Fe College. The three courses offered are ENC0025, REA0017, and MAT0028. These courses are designed to prepare students for success in college-level reading, writing and math courses.
Academic Evaluations
Based on student-athletes’ admission materials and academic screeners administered during student athlete orientation, they may qualify for further academic assessment. The University of Florida Athletic Association is able to provide access to and facilitate psychoeducational evaluations conducted by psychologists on campus and in the local community. These evaluations provide information regarding academic achievement and ability, and have the potential to identify learning disorders and/or ADHD. With this type of diagnosis, students can qualify for academic accommodations through the University’s Disability Resource Center, in addition it can make them eligible for Strategy Program support throughout their tenure at the University of Florida.
