Biography

Wiegandt (pronounced Wee-GAUNT) is in his final season at Florida after transferring from Miami. The righthander pitched in five games last season while recovering from an off-season surgery.
2000: Had off-season surgery on his right rotator cuff but returned to game action in April to make 5 appearances out the Bullpen on the season...Made first save of the season in post season play against South Carolina (5/20).
1999: Did not make an appearance.
1998: Made four appearances with one start...Posted a 1-0 record with a 2.25 ERA in eight innings pitched on the season...Earned first win against Charleston Southern, pitching 3.2 innings while allowing one run on four hits in first career start.
1997 AT MIAMI: Played one season at Miami before transferring to Florida...Made three appearances with one save and a 6.75 ERA...Recorded save in first collegiate action, pitching 2.2 innings against Hawaii while allowing just one hit...Did not pitch again after March 8.
SUMMER BASEBALL: Played for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox in the Cape Cod League in 1997... One of 18 members of the 1996 United States Junior Olympic Team that competed in the World Championships in Cuba.
PREP: A 1996 graduate of Westminster Christian where he was coached by Rich Hoffman...High School teammate of UF teammate Keith Brice...Three-year letterwinner...Earned Mizuno All-American honors...1996 Class 2A All-State first team honors, as well as All-Dade County...Named Miami Herald baseball player of the year...Honorable mention selection on USA-Today's All-USA team...Posted a perfect 13-0 record with a 1.03 ERA and 97 strikeouts...Also recorded two saves...Named MVP of the 1996 Dole Classic in Anaheim, Calif. after defeating highly-ranked Mater Dei (HS) in the title game...Team won national championship...Pitched a two-hitter in a 10-0 shutout victory over Chaminade Madonna of Fort Lauderdale...As a junior, named second-team All-Dade with a 8-4 record to go along with an ERA of 1.30 and 60 strikeouts...Named MVP of the High School World Series in Euclid, Ohio...Runner-up in state championship...Also played on the varsity squad as a sophomore, helping squad to Florida Class 2A State Championship...Pitched seven innings of no-hit baseball in relief in the state championship game.
