Marija Vucenovic is one of five Gators in program history with multiple top-five finishes in the javelin.
Gators Score 11 Points, Move Into Fifth Place at NCAA Championships
Friday, June 10, 2016 | Track and Field
Three of UF's four scorers on day one of the women's championships were underclassmen
EUGENE, Ore. – The University of Florida women's track and field team scored 11 points across four field events and qualified for four running finals on the second day of action at the NCAA Outdoor Championships on Thursday (June 9).
Marija Vucenovic and Darrielle McQueen nabbed four points apiece with their fifth-place finishes in the javelin throw and long jump, respectively.
Vucenovic, the runner-up finisher at the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Championships, became the fifth javelin thrower in program history to record multiple top-five finishes at the national meet. Evelien Dekkers (2009-10), Emily Carlsten (1999-2000), Cindy Herceg (1990, 1993), and Lori Mercer (1984-86) are the only others to accomplish the feat.
McQueen's finish in the long jump was the highest ever by a UF underclassman at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Her teammate, Yanis David, took eighth place and tallied one point, becoming the first freshman in school history to score in the event at NCAA Outdoors. Additionally, David and McQueen are just the fourth pair of teammates since 2002 to score in the event.
The No. 9 Gators collected two points from Lloydricia Cameron's seventh-place finish in the shot put as well.
On the track, Robin Reynolds qualified for her second 400 meters final in her last three NCAA Outdoors appearances, while Claudia Francis joined Ugonna Ndu (2013) as the only other Gator since 2002 to advance to the 400-meter hurdles final.
Both the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams qualified for the finals, too, keeping their chances to win consecutive national titles in those events alive.
Men's finals will be held on Friday (June 10), while women's finals will take place on Saturday (June 11).
Live television coverage for the final two days of competition will be provided by ESPN, in addition to online streaming available via Watch ESPN. Broadcast times and information can be found below.

HEARING OUT (COACH) HOLLOWAY
On UF's performance on day one of the women's championships…
"The first thing I want to say is that I'm very, very proud of the work put in by Coach (Steve) Lemke and Coach (Nic) Petersen over the last month. It's no secret none of us had the conference meet we wanted, and coming into this meet people might not have had our team scoring 11 points overall. For us to put up 11 points today and have everybody qualify, with the exception of one on the track, I thought we had a great day.
"When you look at that group of people who did that today, all but one scorer we had was an underclassman. They all performed exceedingly well. Very, very proud of all of them."
On how impressed he was with the consistency of the overall series from the throwers and jumpers…
"People can misconstrue and think sometimes that at the national championships you have to have a personal best. Sometimes it's just best to go out there, do your best, and be who you are. What you saw today was that everybody threw or jumped right at their personal best. If it wasn't a personal best, it was not far below it. Even Jayla Bostic, who didn't quite make the (hammer throw) final, had the second-farthest throw of her life.
"What we've preached to them is consistency and trusting and doing what we do. It's turned out wonderful so far. Kudos to that group today."
On the next two days of competition…
"The men, we just have to come out tomorrow and duplicate our efforts from Wednesday, and turn up the intensity. As I like to say to them, we have to engage in the party. There's a wonderful competition going on here and we have to match the focus and intensity of the other teams. If we do that, we'll be fine.
"As far as the women go on Saturday, we've got an opportunity to do very well. The biggest thing with the women is that the people on the track have to figure out how to match the intensity of the young ladies who were in the field today. I didn't see the same passion, the same pride out of the people on the track today. That's concerning. The next 48 hours, we'll get that straightened out."
