OMAHA, Neb. -- After losing out on a bid to Rio in the men's 400m IM finals Sunday, Ryan Lochte can now call himself a four-time Olympian.
Lochte, who earned his way to the U.S. Olympic Team Trials' 200m freestyle finals after two fifth-place finishes in the prelims and semifinals, finished fourth at 1:46.62 in the event's finals on Tuesday night, clinching a spot on the United States' 4x200m freestyle relay team in Rio.
Conor Dwyer placed second at 1:45.67, also earning a spot on the relay team as well as in the individual 200m freestyle race. Dwyer has already made it to the 2016 Olympics in the 400m freestyle.
Lochte and Dwyer join eight other Gator swimmers who have already qualified for the Olympics in their countries' trials: Mitch D'Arrigo (Italy), Hilda Luthersdottir (Iceland), Corey Main (New Zealand), Sebastien Rousseau (South Africa), Eduardo Solaeche-Gomez (Spain), Dan Wallace (Great Britain), Jan Switkowski (Poland) and Pawel Werner (Poland).
The trials continue with Day 4 on Wednesday. Before scratches, nine current and former Gators are scheduled to compete in the men's 100m freestyle (Caeleb Dressel, Brad deBorde, Lochte and Dwyer), women's 200m butterfly (Elizabeth Beisel, Taylor Katz, Alyssa Yambor-Maul and Sierra Kuhn) and men's 200 breaststroke (Ross Palazzo).
