Florida finished 25th in final poll of 2015 season
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The Gators are ranked No. 25 in the preseason AP Top 25, released Sunday morning.
The Gators open the season Sept. 3 at home against UMass, ranked 25th in the USA Today/Amway Coaches Poll also.
The Gators rose as high as No. 8 in the AP Top 25 a year ago after starting the season 6-0. However, three consecutive losses to end the season dropped them to 25th in the final poll of 2015.
Meanwhile, Alabama opens the 2016 season ranked where it finished last year: at the top. Clemson is No. 2, followed by No. 3 Oklahoma, No. 4 Florida State and fifth-ranked LSU.
The Gators face four teams in the preseason AP Top 25 during the regular season: Florida State, LSU, No. 9 Tennessee and No. 18 Georgia.
The Gators enter their final week of preseason camp with Luke Del Rio as the starting quarterback. Gators head coach Jim McElwain tabbed Del Rio the starter on Thursday.
This is the first time Florida has opened the season ranked in the AP Top 25 since 2013 when it opened No. 10.
