GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Florida placed 76 student-athletes on the 2016 Southeastern Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll, announced today by league commissioner Greg Sankey.
The 2016 SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2016 spring, summer and fall terms.
Twenty-seven from Florida's SEC East champion football team appear on the Academic Honor Roll. The SEC Tournament champion Gators placed the league's all-time high of 24 on the women's soccer academic honor roll. Four members of the 2016 SEC champion Gator volleyball team earned spots on the academic honor roll, as well as 11 men's and 10 women's cross country runners.
Two among the SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll earned spots on their second consecutive College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America teams in 2016 – soccer players Savannah Jordan and Betsy Middleton. Both graduated in December, with Middleton receiving highest honors after completing her academic career with a 4.0 grade point average.
To be recognized to the SEC Academic Honor Roll, each student-athlete must 1) have a GPA of 3.00 for either the preceding academic year or have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship, a letterwinner or have participated on a varsity team for two years if non-scholarship; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport's entire NCAA Championship segment.
