Gators football coach Jim McElwain will start his 2017 spring speaking tour in Gainesville on April 4.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Head football coach Jim McElwain opens Florida's spring speaking tour on April 4 with the Gainesville Quarterback Club. That event is just three days prior the annual Orange & Blue Debut, presented by Sunniland, which is April 7 at 7:30 p.m. in Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.
This year's speaking tour has 10 appearances by McElwain, four by Gators basketball coach Mike White, three by Athletic Director Scott Stricklin and three by Ambassador Steve Spurrier.
Since Jim McElwain arrived at Florida prior to the 2015 season, only Alabama (28) has more total wins than UF's
19 in the SEC. In addition, the Gators are 19-8 under McElwain, which ties Steve Spurrier for the second-most by a UF head coach through his first two seasons. Not to mention, UF has won back-to-back SEC Eastern Division titles.
Meanwhile, White was recently named the SEC Coach of the Year, as Florida posted 24 wins during the regular season, tied for the third-most in the program's history. His Gators will face either Texas A&M or Vanderbilt in the SEC Tournament in Nashville on Friday.
Stricklin has already toured Polk County, Tampa, Jacksonville, Orlando and West Palm for a personal meet and greet with Gator Boosters in those respective areas. Not to mention, the UAA's Ambassador Steve Spurrer will visit a few cities he is very familiar with.
The speaking tour by UF coaches and administrators is a collaborative effort by the UF Alumni Association, GatorBoosters Inc. and the University Athletic Association.
