Florida’s Meredith Flaherty Named College Soccer Weekly’s Player of the Week

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – University of Florida senior goalkeeper Meredith Flaherty was named College Soccer Weekly's Player of the Week today. The male recipient of the weekly award is Aleksey Korol, a junior forward at Indiana. She is the second Gator player to earn the award this season, as Danielle Fotopoulos picked up the honor for the week of Oct. 12-18.
She earned the Player of the Week award based on her two shutout wins in the NCAA Final Four last weekend in Greensboro, N.C. Flaherty posted seven saves in Florida's NCAA semifinal 1-0 win over previously unbeaten Santa Clara. In Sunday's 1-0 win over top-ranked and two-time defending champion North Carolina, Flaherty recorded eight saves. Flaherty was named the NCAA Final Four Defensive MVP and was named to the all-tournament team.
Flaherty finished the season with Gator season records of 10.53 shutouts and 67 saves. She had a goals against average of 0.643, which ranks 11th in the country.
Fotopoulos was an honorable mention selection for College Soccer Weekly's Player of the Week. She was named the NCAA Final Four Offensive MVP after recording an assist in UF's semifinal win vs. Santa Clara and the game-winning goal in UF's championship win over North Carolina.
