Gator Gymnasts Use Season-best Score to Win Gatorade Sec Showcase

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The University of Florida gymnastics team, ranked No. 4 in the nation, used its highest score of the season to win Friday's Gatorade SEC Showcase vs. No. 14 Louisiana State in front of a Stephen C. O'Connell Center crowd of 3,080. The Gators posted a team score of 196.625 -- their highest ever in their home arena -- to defeat the LSU Tigers, which tallied a score of 194.025.
Gator gymnasts set or matched collegiate-best marks nine times Friday. Florida All-Americans Chrissy Van Fleet and Susan Hines shared the evening's vault title after each earned marks of 9.95 for their handspring front pike with a half twist vaults. Gator freshmen Betsy Hamm and Gabby Fuchs combined to share top honors in the uneven bars competition, as each posted collegiate-best scores of 9.875. Van Fleet picked up her first balance beam title of the season, using her collegiate-best mark of 9.925 to share the event's top honors with LSU's Amy McClosky. Hines picked up her fourth floor title of the season by matching her collegiate-best score of 9.95. McClosky claimed the evening's all-around title at 39.275, while UF senior Erika Selga was runner-up with a season-best total of 39.20.
Florida finishes its three-meet homestand next Friday when it plays host to No. 21 Iowa State for SunTrust Senior Night. Meet time is set for 7 p.m. in the O'Connell Center.
