University of Florida defensive end Alex Brown and wide receiver Darrell Jackson were named Tuesday to Football News' 1999 All-America teams.
Brown, a sophomore from Hamilton County High School who has set the Florida record for most quarterback sacks in a season with 13, was named to that weekly publication's first-team All-America squad. Jackson, a junior from Tampa Catholic High School who has registered the fourth-most receiving yards in a season (1,107), was a third-team selection.
Brown, a 6-4, 251-pounder, leads the Gator defense in "Big Plays" with 38 and tackles for loss with 18, in addition to his school record 13 QB sacks. Brown was named the National Defensive Player of the Week after a five-sack performance over then number two-ranked Tennessee in September.
Jackson, a 6-0, 201-pounder, has 64 catches this season for 1,104 yards. The 64 catches ranks as the fifth-best single-season total in school history, while the yardage ranks fourth. Jackson has seven 100-yard receiving games this season and his six straight 100-yard games against SEC opponents this fall established a new school record.
