20 Named to SEC Football Academic Honor Roll

A school-record tying 20 University of Florida student-athletes were named to the 1999 Southeastern Conference Football Academic Honor Roll, SEC Commissioner Roy Kramer announced Wednesday. The 20 honorees equals UF's total from 1998 and is the most for any league school this season.
Senior offensive guard Cooper Carlisle made his fourth appearance on the honor roll, while seniors Ryan Kalich and Billy Young, and junior Matt McCoun all were honored for the third time. Six Gators were named to the honor roll for the second time, while 10 others received recognition for the first time.
Florida's 20 honorees are: senior Cooper Carlisle (finance - fourth time), sophomore Robert Gillespie (sports management - first time), senior Russ Gravlee (food and resource economics - first time), junior Darrell Jackson (business administration - second time), junior Eric Jonsson (microbiology - first time), senior Ryan Kalich (building construction - third time), senior Demetrius Lewis (sociology - first time), sophomore Marquand Manuel (criminology and law - second time), junior Matt McCoun (sports management - third time), junior Jesse Palmer (business administration - second time), freshman Mike Pearson (business administration - first time), senior Paul Richmond (industrial systems engineering - first time), sophomore Rob Roberts (zoology - second time), senior Nick Schiralli (telecommunications - second time), sophomore T.J. Truxon (economics - second time), freshman Aaron Walker (natural resource management - first time), sophomore Kenyatta Walker (sociology - first time), sophomore David Wasielewski (political science - first time), freshman Kirk Wells (graphic design - first time) and senior Billy Young (special education - third time).
To be eligible for the honor roll, a student-athlete must have a 3.0 grade point average for either the past year or a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher for their career; be a sophomore or higher in terms of academic classification; and have 24 semester or 36 quarter hours towards a degree.
