Swimming & Diving Sweeps Florida State

The eighth-ranked Florida women's swimming and diving team and the 10th-ranked men's swimming and diving team combined for a sweep of the Florida State Seminoles at the Bim Stults Aquatic Center on Friday. The women's team won 139-102, while the men defeated the Seminoles 147-94.
The women's team won eight of the 13 events and was led by a pair of freshmen, Sara McLarty (DeLand, Fla./DeLand) and Nicole Bolt (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips), who each won two events. McLarty finished first in the 200-yard individual medley (2:05.98) and 200-yard backstroke (2:05.36). Bolt took first on the one-meter and three-meter springboard events with scores of 271.80 and 281.70, respectively.
Fellow freshman Janelle Atkinson (Jamaica/The Bolles School) won the 1,000-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 9:45.54. Redshirt-sophomore Megan Melgaard (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) finished first in the 200-yard freestyle with her time of 1:52.41. Junior Natalie Nickson (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips) won the 200-yard butterfly (2:04.29) and senior Sharon Rzadkowolsky (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep) swam the fastest time in the 500-yard freestyle to take first (4:55.36).
The men's team was led by senior Greg Reeves (Tallahassee, Fla./Leon) who won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:49.25. Reeves also finished second in the 1,000-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 9:34.09. Fellow senior Bryan Kim (Seoul, South Korea/Yangjae) swam the fastest time in the 1,000-yard free with a time of 9:26.60. Kim finished second in the 200-yard butterfly, swimming the event in 1:52.24.
Both teams will have a week off before returning to the water. The men's and women's swim teams will return to action at the U.S. Open, in Auburn, Ala., Nov. 30-Dec.2; the meet will last all day. The men's and women's diving teams will also be in action that weekend, when they travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to compete in the Alabama Diving Invitational, Dec. 1-3. The invitational will last all day.
