In the first round of the 128 player singles draw the Gators went 1-2. Behrmann of UF posted the team's lone victory, a 6-2, 6-1 win over Ryan Sanders of Auburn. Ross Greenstein fell by a 6-3, 6-2 score to Gustav Pousette of Kentucky while Troy Hahn was defeated, 7-6, 6-7, 6-1, by Michael Kogan of Tulane.
Four Gators had byes into the second round and three of them emerged victorious. Overholser and Levant each cruised to their wins. Overholser defeated Chris McCrae of Alabama 6-2, 6-1 while Levant defeated South Alabama's Zlatko Stupavsky, 6-1, 6-1. Wurtzman was a 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 winner over Michael Staniak of Middle Tennessee while West Nott fell in his opening match of the day to Pousette, 7-5, 6-0. Behrmann continued his roll by posting a 6-3, 6-3 win over Thomas Dalby of UAB in the second round.
Singles and doubles play will continue through Sunday in Athens.
