Gator Gymnastics Team Second at Michigan Triangular

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The No. 13 University of Florida gymnastics team (12-10) was second at the Michigan triangular, held Saturday evening in front of a Crisler Arena crowd of 1,514. Michigan (14-4), the nation's top-ranked team, won the meet with a total of 197.075. The Gators posted a team total of 194.50 and was followed by Bowling Green (9-12) at 192.175.
"It was a tough meet," UF Head Coach Judi Markell said. "I was pleased that we came back strong on the last two events. We had some great individual performances tonight – Teal (Chiabotti) had career-best scores on vault and beam tonight. It was nice to have Chrissy (Van Fleet) back in the lineup – she seems to have bounced back well from her injury. This meet was a good reminder that we need to be at our best next week for the Southeastern Conference Championships."
Michigan senior Sarah Cain claimed the evening's all-around title with a 39.55. She was followed by BGSU's Marny Oestrang at 39.275 and UF's Chrissy Van Fleet at 38.75.
The Gators opened the meet with a clean set on the uneven bars, earning a team total of 48.675. Florida was led on the event by senior Chrissy Van Fleet, who tied for third overall with a 9.875. Florida then moved to the balance beam, where it got a strong start from Jenny Carow, who turned in a 9.80. Next up came sophomore Krissy Dreger and junior Teal Chiabotti, who each turned in collegiate-best marks of 9.725 and 9.90, respectively. Chiabotti's 9.90 placed her in a three-way tie for second on the event. But the last half of UF's beam lineup each recorded a fall, which resulted in UF's team total of 47.95 – marking the first time since the third meet of the season that the Gators had not broken the 48.00 scoring barrier for the beam.
Florida turned in a team total of 48.775 on the floor exercise. The Gators were led by Van Fleet, who claimed the meet's title with a 9.875 and Lindsey Miner, who tied for second at 9.825. For the second consecutive week, the Gators turned in their strongest overall team score on the vault, posting a 49.10. The last four Gators turned in marks of 9.80 or better, including Chiabotti's collegiate-best mark of 9.90. Chiabotti tied for third overall in the vault competition.
Michigan's Sarah-Elizabeth Langford won the vault by matching the UM school-record of 10.0. Bridget Knaeble of UM won the uneven bars with a 9.95 and the Wolverines' Cami Singer claimed the beam crown with a 9.95.
