BOISE, Idaho -- University of Florida senior Chrissy Van Fleet finished her Gator career Thursday by collecting All-America second-team honors for vault and the uneven bars. The honors earned Thursday up her career total to 11 All-America honors, moving her into a tie with Kristen Guise for the Gators' top spot for career All-America accolades. Van Fleet competed in the first of two sessions Thursday, held in front of a Boise State Pavilion crowd of 5,447.
Van Fleet, competing as an individual all-arounder in Thursday's NCAA Championships action, opened the meet with a mark of 9.825 on the uneven bars, earning her a spot on the All-America second team by tying for seventh in the opening session. She then moved to the balance beam, where a very strong effort was marred by a fall late in the routine. She tied for 36th in the day's opening session with a mark of 9.30. Van Fleet also had trouble on her next event, the floor exercise, falling on her opening pass to post a mark of 9.15. She finished the meet with a solid 9.85 on her first vault, which earned Van Fleet her second All-America second-team honor of the day as she tied for eighth in the event. In the all-around, Van Fleet finished 16th with a total of 38.125.
"To finish her career as Florida's co-leader in All-America honors is a great tribute to Chrissy. I know she didn't do as well as she had wanted today. She has always been a great performer for the team."
In the team competition, Georgia (196.775), Utah (196.125) and Alabama (196.075) advance to Friday's Super Six competition after taking the top three spots in the opening session. Rounding out the opening session team results were Louisiana State (194.95), Oregon State (194.75) and Brigham Young (194.50). Competition for Thursday's Session II begins at 9 p.m. (ET). The top three teams from each of Thursday's two sessions advance to the Super Six team final on Friday, April 14 at 9 p.m. (ET).
