University of Florida senior Jessica Lehnhoff (Delray Beach, FL) has advanced to the final of the FSU Lady Seminole Classic Flight A singles draw after recording a pair of impressive victories Saturday afternoon. Lehnhoff faces FSU’s Anca Dumitrescu for the title Sunday morning at Scott Speicher Tennis Center.
Dumitrescu, who is the No. 3 seed in the draw, defeated Gator freshman Alexis Gordon (Windsor, CT) in the semifinal 6-3, 6-4 to hand the UF rookie the first loss in her young collegiate career. Gordon upset No. 2-seeded Anneliesse Rose from FIU in the morning’s quarterfinal battle.
Lehnhoff reached the final with a convincing 6-1, 6-1 victory over Jacksonville’s Marta Inove in the quarters before defeating Miami’s Mari Toro 6-3, 6-3.
“Jessica was never really pushed in her first match today and did a good job of staying focused throughout the match,” UF head coach Roland Thornqvist said.
“Alexis didn’t play her best tennis today, but she fought back in her quarterfinal match when she was trailing 4-1 in the third set to win. She was able to compete her way to a victory.”
Rain prevented doubles action today, so Gordon and Lehnhoff will play their semifinal match against Auburn’s Katia Illarionova and Carolina Maurer on Sunday following the singles final.
