Sunday, October 7, 2001 | Women's Tennis
University of Florida senior Jessica Lehnhoff (Delray Beach, FL) won the FSU Lady Seminole Classic Flight A singles title with today’s impressive 6-3, 6-3 victory over FSU’s Anca Dumitrescu in the final played at Scott Speicher Tennis Center.
Lehnhoff, who was playing her first event of the season, was barely tested during the during of the 32-player draw, as she dropped a combined total of just 12 games en route to the tournament title.
Lehnhoff later paired with Gator freshman Alexis Gordon (Windsor, CT) in the semifinals of the Flight A doubles draw, but the UF tandem was upset 8-2 by Auburn’s Katia Illarionova and Carolina Maurer.
The Gators have two different tournaments on next week’s schedule. Lehnhoff and sophomore Lindsay Dawaf (Olney, MD) received invitations to compete in the Riviera All-American, one of the ITA Grand Slams, held in California. The remainder of the team plays host to the three-day Gator Fall Classic at Linder Stadium at Ring Tennis Complex beginning on Friday.
