“This is an incredible honor and I am thankful to receive it and would like to thank the writers who voted for me,” Grossman said. “There are some tremendous players around the country and I am privileged to be in their company and to receive this award. Coach Spurrier has a great offensive system here at Florida and we have some excellent linemen, receivers and running backs on our team. I know I would not be the recipient of this award without their strong play this season.”
Grossman led the nation with a 170.8 passing efficiency rating, the 12th best seasonal total in NCAA Division I-A history. Grossman connected on 259 of his 395 passes this year (65.6%) for a school record 3,896 yards with 34 TDs and 12 interceptions. The 3,896 yards is also the second best seasonal total in SEC history. Grossman set a NCAA Division I-A record by throwing for 55 TD passes in his combined freshman and sophomore seasons. In addition to passing efficiency, he led the nation this year in passing yards per game (354.2), total offense (354.9), yards per passing attempt (9.86) and yards per play (9.10) while ranking highly in several other categories, including a third pace finish in TD passes.
