Dupay hit a three-pointer with 46 seconds to go in overtime to give the Gators a 78-74 lead. LSU's Torris Bright had cut the Gator lead to 75-74 with a three-pointer of his own with just over a minute to play.
Haslem, held to just three points in the first half, wound up with 18 points. He also had six rebounds as the Gators overcame a seven point half time deficit. Matt Bonner matched Dupay with 17 points. Brett Nelson scored 12 of the Gators first 17 points and finished with 18 points. Ronald Dupree led the Tigers with 18 points.
The Gators won the game despite getting 17 less shots than the Tigers and being outgunned on the offensive boards 13-1. "It was a great victory for our guys," said Gator assistant coach Donnie Jones, who was subbing for head coach Billy Donovan on the postgame show on the Gator Basketball Network. "This was our seventh or eighth game that's come down to the horn on who won or lost and our guys have been trying to learn from each of these losses and victories. It was a whole team effort here tonight without Brent Wright here."
Wright injured his right thumb during the first half of last Saturday's game against Arkansas. He's listed as questionable for Sunday's game with the Tennessee Volunteers.
The Gators have now won 11 straight games against SEC West opponents. The win improved the Gators' SEC mark to 7-4 and the overall record to 17-5. The Tigers haven't won a home SEC game this year. They've now lost six straight. LSU is 1-10 in league play and 11-11 overall.
