Women's Hoops Junior Finalist for Naismith POY

University of Florida junior Brandi McCain (Silsbee, TX) was named as one of fifteen collegiate women finalists for the Naismith College Basketball Player of the Year Award.
The winners of the Naismith Award will be honored in Atlanta on April 7, 2001 at the Cobb Galleria Centre.
The 5-foot-3 guard leads the No. 9-ranked Lady Gators (20-3, 8-2 Southeastern Conference) in scoring (19.8 ppg), three-point field goals (77), steals (2.9 pg) and free throw shooting percentage (87.7%).
Among all SEC players, McCain ranks No. 4 in scoring, No. 1 in free throw percentage, No. 1 in 3-point field goals per game, No. 2 in steals, No. 7 in assists, No. 5 in assists/turnover ratio and No. 10 in 3-point field goal percentage. Nationally, McCain's numbers rank No. 3 for 3-point field goals per game, No. 15 for free throw percentage and No. 26 for scoring.
She has already established a new Florida record for 3-point field goals in a season and is on pace to break the season free throw percentage record. McCain currently ranks No. 3 all-time at UF for career 3-point field goals made, No. 3 for assists, No. 9 for steals and is on pace to break the school's career free throw percentage record.
During UF's February 11th game against Tennessee, McCain became the 16th Lady Gator to top the 1,000-career point plateau. McCain was named the SEC Player of the Week on December 4, 2000 and also was named Star of the Week by womenscollegehoops.com.
McCain also is one of 10 finalists for the Conseco Nancy Lieberman-Cline Step Up Award presented annually to the best point guard in the country.
