Women's Tennis Defeats South Florida, 7-0

The fourth-ranked University of Florida women's tennis team defeated South Florida 7-0 this afternoon at the USF Varsity Courts in Tampa. The Gators improved their overall record to 3-0 this season, while the Bulls fell to 2-3.
Florida returns to action on Saturday, February 24, when the Gators play host to No. 19 South Carolina. The match begins at 11:30 a.m. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS A TIME CHANGE!!!! The Lady Gamecocks are 4-0 this season and enter Saturday's battle at Linder Stadium at Ring Tennis Complex having won four consecutive SEC openers.
The Gators are 40-1 all-time against South Florida after today's convincing win in which Florida jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead after claiming the doubles point. The Gators lost a three-match total of seven games in doubles play en route to capturing the opening point of the dual match.
In singles action, Florida ripped through four of the matches, losing a combined total of just four games. Junior Jessica Lehnhoff got the winning rolling for the Gators at the No. 2 position, posting a "double- bagel" 6-0, 6-0 victory over Genevieve Houle.
Senior Whitney Laiho rolled over Tina Harrison 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 1 position. The two Gator freshman were equally impressive, as Lindsay Dawaf topped Natalie Schwartz 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 3 spot and Annika Bengtsson doused Ildiko Zubor 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6.
"We really did a good job today. When we got ahead in the matches, we didn't relax," UF head coach Andy Brandi said. "It was a really good match for this time of the year and hopefully we can keep it up for Saturday against South Carolina."
Also collecting straight-set wins today were sophomore Julia Scaringe, who topped Ashlee Callahan 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5, and senior Stephanie Hazlett downing Jennifer Sinclair 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 4 spot.
