Swimming and Diving Splits With Tennessee

The seventh-ranked University of Florida women's swimming and diving team defeated 22nd-ranked Tennessee 162-127, while the 10th-ranked men's team fell to the third-ranked Volunteers 128.5-107.5 at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center Natatorium Saturday afternoon. The meet was the last regular season meet for the Gators.
For the men's team, senior Ricardo Monasterio (Caracas, Venezuela/Institutos Edu. Asociados) led the team, winning two of the meet's events. Monasterio won the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:15.63 and the 500-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 4:26.82. Fellow senior Bryan Kim (Songpa, South Korea/Yanjae) swam the top time in the 200-yard individual medley, touching the wall in 1:49.55. Senior Greg Reeves (Tallahassee, Fla./Leon) won the 200-yard butterfly with his time of 1:48.52 and junior Mike Jansen (Wellington, Fla./Wellington) won the 200-yard backstroke, swimming the event in 1:48.39. Monasterio's time in the 500-free, Kim's time in the 200 IM and Reeves's time in the 200 fly all met the NCAA provisional qualifying standards.
The women's swimming and diving team was led for the third consecutive meet by freshman Sara McLarty (Deland HS) who was a double winner for the Gators in her third straight meet. She won the 200-yard butterfly in a collegiate best time of 2:02.22 and lowering her provisional qualifying time in the process. She also won the 1000-yard freestyle in a time of 9:51.24 setting a new collegiate best time. Also posting a double win for Florida was freshman Cerian Gibbes (Trinidad/The Bolles School) who won the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:05.44 and she touched the wall in first in the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:20.96. Senior Leah Martindale (St James, Barbados/St. Michael School) concluded the double wins for the Gators touching the wall in first in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle. She won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.59 and the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 51.37.
The Gators will return to the pool Wednesday, Feb. 21- Saturday, Feb. 24 when they compete at the SEC Championships in Tusacaloosa, Ala.
