Florida Swimming & Diving Splits Season-Opening Dual Meet at Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS, IN. - The Florida swimming and diving teams split their season-opener dual meet against Indiana on Friday afternoon at the Hoosiers' Counsilman Billingsley Aquatic Center. The Gator women secured a 170-130 victory, while the men fell to the Hoosiers, 208-92.
Florida's women dominated the meet with 10 event wins and swept the top two spots in seven of the 12 swimming events. Julie Brousseau and Lainy Kruger each contributed 18 points to the team total after both earning two individual event wins and swimming on the 400-yard medley relay team who finished second.
Catie Choate 24.62), Anita Bottazzo (26.52), Beatriz Bezerra (23.95) and Addison Reese (22.17) kicked the meet off with a first-place finish in the 200y medley (1:37.86), while Grace Rabb (200 IM), Grace Rainey (200y breast), Bottazzo (100y breast) and Choate (200y back) contributed individual victories for the women as well.
On the men's side, the Gators posted 12 top-three finishes, as freestyler Ahmed Jaouadi won the 200y free in 1:37.42 and finishing second in the 500y free (4:23.43) in his Gator debut to tally a team-high 13 points.
The men closed out the meet on a high note, as the 400y free relay team of Devin Dilger (43.56), Josh Liendo (42.36), Alexander Painter (44.20) and Scotty Buff (44.51) claimed first place with a time of 2:54.63.
In total, 10 swimmers and four divers made their Gator debuts on Friday. Among the standouts was freshman diver Maria Garcia, who won the 3-meter event with a score of 308.48 and placed second in the 1-meter (254.78).

The Gators return to Gainesville on Friday, Oct. 10 to host the Virginia Cavaliers in a dual meet at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center Natatorium. Both swimming and diving events will take place throughout the day, beginning with the first swimming session at 10:00 AM ET. Florida diving will follow at 12:30 PM ET and the second swimming session will resume at 4:00 PM to wrap up the meet.
