The No. 4 Florida women's tennis team did not drop a set en route to a 7-0 win on Friday afternoon over No. 24 Illinois at Linder Stadium at Ring Tennis Complex in Gainesville. The match had been postponed from Thursday evening due to rain. The win keeps UF perfect at 9-0 on the year while the Illini slip to 9-5.
"We took care of business," UF head coach Andy Brandi said. "We did a very good job of dictating the way the matches were played and a very good job of closing the matches. It was a definite improvement from North Carolina to here today. We are heading in the right direction."
UF swept the three doubles matches, including an 8-0 win by Julia Scaringe and Stephanie Hazlett at No. 2. In singles UF did not lose more than two games in any given set and did not lose more than three games in any match. Whitney Laiho led the way with her 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 over Jenny McGaffigan.
