Florida was unable to overcome its recent doubles woes, losing all three matches, despite using its 11th and 12th different doubles pairings this spring. The closest match came at No. 3 where Matt Behrmann and Ross Greenstein took the nation's 41st ranked team of Andres Pedroso and Ted Rueger to a tiebreaker before falling 9-8 (5).
Senior Nathan Overholser did not play in singles and that brought freshman Jeremy Wurtzman into the No. 1 position for the first time in his young career. Against 30th ranked Phillip King, Wurtzman was defeated 6-3, 6-4, snapping a nine-match winning streak that dated back to November 3. The other five Gators also lost their matches in straight sets, including Greenstein who was forced to retire against Alex Bose while trailing 6-3, 4-0 at No. 5.
The Gators return to action on Wednesday when they return to Gainesville to face a much improved Vanderbilt team that is ranked 41st in the nation after finishing the 2000 season out of the ITA Top 75.
