University of Florida junior center Udonis Haslem and sophomore guard Brett Nelson have been named First-Team All-Southeastern Conference by the league coaches Monday evening.
Haslem is on the team for the third season in a row, making him only the third player in school history and the first Florida player since Andrew DeClercq (1992-93 through 1994-95) to be named All-SEC three times by the league coaches. Nelson, who was named SEC Player of the Week earlier in the day, is on the team for the first time. This marks the first time since the 1994-95 season that two Gators were named First-Team All-SEC. DeClercq and Dan Cross were both first team selections that year.
Haslem has led the team in scoring this season, averaging 16.7 points per game. The 6-8, 265-pounder from Miami, Fla. is also averaging 7.1 rebounds per game. Nelson's 17.9 points per game in conference games was tops in the league. The 6-3, 185-pounder from St. Albans, West Virginia also led the Gators in assists, steals and three point field goals.
Florida's two selections on the first team was tops in the conference. Alabama, Kentucky and Ole Miss each have one member on the first team. Kentucky's Tayshaun Prince was named the league's Player of the Year and Ole Miss' Justin Reed was named SEC Freshman of the Year. Ole Miss head coach Rod Barnes was named SEC Coach of the Year.
