The fifth-ranked University of Florida women's tennis team placed three student-athletes on the Southeastern Conference Honor Roll, the league announced today.
Seniors Stephanie Hazlett (Evansville, IN) and Whitney Laiho (Newport, RI), in addition to sophomore Julia Scaringe (Marietta, GA) all earned the academic honor for their work in the classroom.
This is the third time Laiho, a Sociology major, has received the award, the maximum number of times a student-athlete can earn the honor. Hazlett, who is majoring Exercise and Sport Sciences, earned the award for the second consecutive season. Scaringe, who is working toward a degree in Management, received the academic award in her first eligible year.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must: have a 3.0 grade point average for either the past year or for their career; be a sophomore or higher in academic classifications; and have 24 semester hours countable toward a degree. The 2001 SEC Women's Tennis Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 1999-2000 academic calendar.
