Track Meet Highlighted by UF wins and Qualifiers

The University of Florida Track teams hosted the Gator Twi-Light meet at Percy Beard Stadium. The Gators hosted eight other teams in today's meet and registered a number of provisional qualifiers for the NCAA Championships.
Chris Duncan started the day with a provisional time of 8:49.94 in the 3,000m steeplechase. His running mate Donnell Bowen from Florida finished in 9:32.10. Moise Joseph ran the 1,500m in 3:45.63, which is a provisional qualifying time and sixth all-time at the University of Florida.
Stephen Jones hit his previous provisional qualifying mark in the 110m hurdles, running 13.68 for the win. Also in the sprints, Geno White improved his provisional status for the NCAA Championships with a time of 45.73 in the 400m. White already has an automatic qualifying time in the 200m from a previous meet. Aaron Armstrong became the first Florida athlete to qualify for the NCAA Championship in the 100m. Armstrong finished in 10.27 seconds. Mike King provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 400m hurdles with a personal best.
Jeff Rubenstein won his fourth shot put title in the last five meets with a 54-11.5. He was one of eight winners for the men's team on the day. Riley Tomlinson won the pole vault with a mark 16-5.5. Maurice Lewis was the top collegiate finisher in the long jump with a mark of 25-4.5.
The women's team started the day with a win in the 4x100m relay. The Gators took the win with a time of 44.30, a provisional mark they had already hit this season. Faith Rein continued the provisional qualifying theme with a lifetime best of 53.08 in the 400m. She now moves to eighth all-time at Florida.
Freshman Ebony Shotwell ran a provisional qualifying time of 11.33 into a headwind for a provisional qualifying time. Erin Merten improved her provisional standing in the 800m with a time of 2:06.26. The Gators now have four athletes qualified for the NCAA Championships with times 2:06.58 or better. Amber Robinson turned in a 23.18 personal best performance in the 200m to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Championships. The mark solidifies her in fourth place on the all-time list.
Florida also got wins from Jukina Dickerson in the hammer throw and Katie Townsend in the discus. Townsend's mark of 157-11 is a new personal best, moving her to 10th on the all-time Florida list. Laura Hawkins also provisionally qualified for the national championships with a pole vault winning height of 12-6.25. It is also her season best.
The Gators hit the road again next week for the 107th running of the Penn Relays in Philadelphia beginning on Thursday, April 26.
