The University of Florida women's swimming and diving team announced the signing of one additional swimmer for its 2001 signing class Monday. Renate Du Plessis will join the Gator squad after transferring from the University of Hawaii.
"Renate will bring a lot of speed to our butterfly events," Florida head coach Gregg Troy said. "She will also help in the medley relay events. She has international experience and is a very committed athlete."
Du Plessis is originally from Capetown, SouthAfrica. Du Plessis swam in the last two NCAA Championships for Hawaii and was a member of the 2000 South African Olympic Team.
The signing of Du Plessis brings the total number of signees for the women's swimming and diving team for the 2001 season to six.
