Florida Men's Hoops To Play Charlotte In Miami

Florida and Charlotte, a pair of second-round NCAA Tournament teams from a year ago and defending champions in their respective leagues, will square off in the second game of the Orange Bowl Basketball Classic, bowl organizers announced Monday afternoon.
The eighth annual Orange Bowl Classic is scheduled for Saturday, December 15th at the AmericanAirlines Arena in downtown Miami. Tip-off for the first game between Miami and Big Ten runner-up Indiana is set for 6:00 p.m. The nightcap will feature the Gators and the 49ers at approximately 8:30 p.m. Florida was 24-7 and captured its second consecutive Southeastern Conference Championship last year, while Charlotte was 22-11 and won the Conference USA title.
Both games will be televised on Sunshine Network.
The University of Miami and University of Florida have signed long-term contracts to participate in the next three Orange Bowl Classics beginning in 2001.
